Baby Gaga
Thu, Jun 9, 2011
In the final weeks of my pregnancy I was all about Gaga.
Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga’s Born This Way.
I don’t know what it was about that song, but I couldn’t stop listening to it. I danced around the living room to Born This Way. I walked (waddled) around the block to Born This Way. I baked a chocolate cake every day for a week and the whole time I was listening to Born This Way.
And I cried every.single.time it played.
“My mama told me when I was young, we are all born superstars.” Cry.
“Cuz he made you perfect babe.” Cry.
“I’m beautiful in my way.” Cry
“Cuz God makes no mistakes.” Cry.
“I’m on the right track baby I was Born This Way.” Cry.
Even though I was having a boy which meant some of the daughter-oriented-lyrics were off, I wanted him to know…
Before his first breath. Before his first cry. Before I saw his precious little face for the first time…
That he was born perfect.
On March 17th, about one month before baby Arn arrived, I posted this as a status update on Facebook:
Friend: Will you play music in the delivery room?
Me: Yes. Lady Gaga “Born This Way.”
Friend: Nice! What else?
Me: That’s all. Just “Born This Way.”
Friend: (concerned pause) Um, you know it can take a while for the baby to come out right…?
Me: What?!
Various friends posted their hours in labor or pushing and I translated each to “Born This Ways.”
At the hospital 39 minutes?
Nine Born This Ways.
In labor 17 and a half hours?
242 Born This Ways.
One girl questioned if she could have handled 693 Born This Ways, but I knew I could.
Not matter how long it took, I would do it with Gaga.
As it turned out, to my dismay, when it came time for my delivery there was no time for Gaga. A journey we thought would take baby Arnicus (an in utero-nickname that stuck) four hours, took fewer than 15 minutes and before we could turn on the tunes, before we met our doctor, Arn was on his way down.
It took fewer than three Born This Ways to push the little man out.
And just as we suspected, he was born perfect.
…
That being said… he has his moments.
Those moments when, no matter what I do, the kid will not. stop. screaming.
And though there are many books filled with tips and tricks on how to stop a (perfect) screaming baby, there’s only one thing that works for our boy.
Lady Gaga. Born This Way.
Go figure.

OMG.. SO CUTE.. Love this!!!
That is so amazing!!!!!!!! The story in and of itself was so funny and awesome, but that video is priceless. I actually read the story to my husband after I had already read it myself and then started the video. It was so funny that he actually stopped playing Call of Duty to come and watch it.
Your kid cracks me up!
Oh this is too precious He is a beautiful beautiful boy
The story is hilarious as well
I sent this story to Ellen. Its right up her ally (in my opinion). So if you get a call from ELlen and you suddenly find yourself more famous than you already are (wink-wink) you can thank me. (jkjkjkjkjk)…. And of course if there is any money involved I want my 20% cut. (jkjkjkjkjkjk)… (but seriously)….
Arn is perfect. This video is hilarious, priceless, perfect, and better than any of the youtube videos out there with cats doing funny things. Not that I’m comparing your kid to a cat.
see? You had him conditioned in utero to love that song.
Gaga is the baby-whisperer. It doesn’t even take one complete Born This Way to make Arnicus happy.
Ditto to what’s been said already. Hilarious! Priceless!! Babies are so much fun.
“I want to see baby Arn again”…”baby Arn crying.” “I see more baby Arn…” She’s smitten, and very concerned about why he is crying. : )
STOP TORTURING MY GRANDSON!
Gee, my kids knew Jesus Loves Me…times have certainly changed.
This is so adorable! Everytime Arn started to cry, Adrian was kissing the computer screen, and saying “oh no” with a very concerned face! Hmmmm…do you think Adrian’s ready for a baby brother or sister?
You can’t fight the Gaga… What a great video, he is PERFECT.
lol – so funny, but poor kid! and think that this is just the start of all the things you’ll do to him, lol!
Just be sure to bring GAGA with you when you come visit. Grancy will need it.
The next YouTube sensation. Adorable.
sounds like michael during a polo game. maybe we need to play some lady gaga during polo games?
I loveeee it!!
That is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
i freakin love that baby
I have tears coming out of my eyes. Hysterical!
Just read your new story and watched the video. The only thing I can say is that maybe he remembers the time he had a continuous flow of food, and a comfortable and warm place to live…. he recalls those days with tears in his eyes while he listens to “Born this way”
I mean that is awesome. Not just the fact that he looks like Mike, but that lady gaga relaxes him. I think if you played the music with Mike when he was stressed he would relax too:)
OMG that’s CRAZY! I think Lady Gaga herself needs to see that. Arn could be the star of her next video. What a beautiful child. Love you
Hilarious video! My kids were this way with Christmas music.
Funny! But I agree with “Mom” – please stop torturing him and just leave Lady Gaga playing! George Thorogood was the only thing that worked for our son so I can relate!
Oh my gosh! Too funny! My youngest “Beanie” whose 2 loves that song as well! Only instead of getting her to stop crying…it makes her dance like a mad woman!
Beautiful story Kindra! (Now just keep it playing for the next oh….I don’t know….3 to 6 years!
Pure torture…I couldn’t stand it myself. He is precious…
Kindra and Michael-This is DARLING and HILARIOUS! I cannot wait to meet this precious little man in a few weeks!
Love you!
Ok, I had to see this video you spoke about and viewed it at work…we didn’t have patients at the time, ok?!?!?!?! LOL BUT, now, I can’t get the song out of my head and the view of that poor screaming baby! I really felt for him and wanted to pick him up then the song came back on…VERY FUNNY! I have showed everyone!!!!
Oh, sweet Kindy, I just wanted to pick him up and snuggle him. He is so precious. Not exactly my choice of music but maybe I’ll get my chance this summer to hold and rock and sing to him!! What a doll.
Awesome! I love how he nods his head to the music – he’s got rythm.
OK, I’m catching up on your blog and this post? HILARIOUS. I love it!
when my first born was in the oven, her dad was in a band. so i was around loud music ALL the time. she was a mover and a shaker while in the baking process unless there was loud music playing… so when she came into the world and would be fussy i would turn the music up super loud and sure enough she would become still and quiet…love your story and happy to share mine! =0)
